STRYCHNINE
“We set out to play punk rock and that’s what we do,” says bassist Joe Garcia of STRYCHNINE. Working within the aggressive and ultrasonic parameters of old school punk, the Oakland, California-based band puts it’s own hyper-drive spin on the already charged-up metallic speed-punk sound. STRYCHNINE formed in 1995, amidst the celebrated East Bay punk scene, and out of the ashes of various bands (Capitol Punishment, Hell’s Kitchen, Naked Aggression, Grinch and Econochrist). TheyÕve shared stages with the punk legends (Subhumans, Slaughter and the Dogs, the Dickies, the Exploited, the Lewd, Verbal Abuse, Channel 3, Dead Kennedys) that influenced them, but now it’s Strychnine’s turn to step up and join their heroes in the punk rock pantheon. Standing firmly on the ground between hardcore thrash and loud and hard alternative rock, STRYCHNINE’S strength is in its ability to push the boundaries of punk while keeping the music’s original blitzkrieg sound and rebellious spirit at the fore. AKINETON RETARD
One of the principal exponents of the experimental music in Chile is on Eurotour 2004 since May. With ten years of work, the group has released three CDs: Akineton Retard, Akranania and 21 Canapes, and is preparing the fourth one for October. The originality, freedom and irony are the principal characteristics of their artistical proposal with a music which goes between jazz, hard rock & contemporary languages. We can say, without a doubt, that it's an absolutely urban band. The group is formed by five musicians (guitar, drums, bass and two saxes), sound engineer, visual artist, tour manager and a producer. Akineton Retard also received the International Darwin Award at Treviso - Italy, assigned by the specialized Italian press. This was the first time that a Latin-American band obtain this honor (the prize giving concert would be available in DVD produced by Lizard Records).
