De twee trio’s gaan hoogstwaarschijnlijk laten ervaren hoezeer “muzikale karakters” kunnen verschillen., individueel gezien, maar ook als samenwerkingsverband. Bakker/Sterk/Tonino: meeslepend bedachtzaam, vaklieden van het abstracte contrapunt. Monk/da Silva/van Rooij: niet in het gareel te houden hyperactieve duurlopers, een pulserende energiebal van start tot finish.

In Boogje1 Cedric and Arno linked with great loving people like Jose, Juan, Spolly and Maarten. All of them have been involved in the Rastafarian movement of Rotterdam. The first Zion Gate Reggae on the 27th of December with performances of Suspect and Human Rites was a succes. Reggae in Rotterdam had come alive with almost 200 people inside the Boogje. Every meeting in Boogje (mostly on fridays) has become try-out sessions where the upcoming soundsystem can practice for our first soundsystem sessions in 2004. The first session is going to be on the 17th of Januari at the Poortgebouw in Rotterdam. A good small venue to learn how to work with all the equipment. After these sessions Selah Soundsystem will cross the country to spread Jah Love and Message and will try to establish sessions a monthly bases in Boogje1 and/or Poortgebouw to keep soundsystem sessions alive in Rotterdam.

Improvisation is the keyword. In the attic of the Poortgebouw, improvisation doesn’t only refer to the oft associated jazz derive (although definitely integral) rather the desire to create an unpredictable evening without a pre-defined program shaped by labels (goth-night, hiphop-night, movie-night) and codified expectations. It is a temporary open podium once a month for individuals who have an idea to test it in the company of others. Ideally, some coincidental overlaps emerge and breed something new. The dynamic of each evening created by the blurred border between audience and participants is unique and unrepeatable.

IVA NOVA
All female Ethno-Punk uit St Petersberg, Iva Nova was formed in St. Petersburg in 2002, when five young Russian ladies met to create a new collective of musicians. All of them had had vast experience of playing at gigs with various groups and having found themselves to be really kindred souls, they started off their joint career, naturally and courageously combining the tunes and instrumentation of traditional Slavonic music with the energy and attitude of punk. Their original songs, sung by Vera Ogareva, with tunes and lyrics based on the riches of the folklore, are catchy and sensitive. Fuzzy dirt-simple guitar riffs (Inna Lishenkevich) and explosively frenetic percussion (Katherina Fedorova) supported by the poignant bass (Elena Stankevich) and the energy of jazzy Russian accordion (Elena Zhornik) fill their performance with both rural restlessness and urban craziness. Iva Nova’s sound is driving and powerful, their live acting is cheerful and often humorous: this high-spirited music will hardly leave anybody untouched.

Screamcore from Rotterdam. 1997: after some years of playing their acoustic guitars together, recording crappy songs on an even crappier tape-recorder, Mandy and Hilde decide to form a band.That same year, Lady Diana dies in a car-crash...A band.....a bandname. The first gigs follow a few months later. An in the Netherlands unknown formation is now walking the planks: no men, but women, no punk rock 'n' roll or emocore, but ear-deafening punk, metal, hardcore and trash. Lady!Die is a loud, wild and energetic live-act. Coming from an activist background, the Ladies will continue to be socially aware throughout their lyrics. Making music is their activism.
