Via een slimme samenstelling van ad-hoc-ensembles kan een concert desondanks

Keith John Adams has been making music. First in an acoustic guitar/drums/violin
outfit called The Horse Doctors, then for the second half of the nineties,
in Zuno Men. “Keith John Adams’s short, punchy songs are just
as sweet as your average cookie cutter pop confection, but when you bite
into them (work with me, here), there’s a bit of something you didn’t
expect: substance. Maybe it’s the refreshingly simple production
-- the album was recorded live to one microphone and a Minidisc recorder
-- or the deceptive sharpness of the songwriting. Maybe it’s the
accordion and singing saw accents. Whatever it is, it adds up to one of
the best pure pop albums I've heard this year.”

"after being swallowed by the Micromusic-hype, I asked myself how to carry
on and whether it is possible to move at all in a music-style that only
looks back and that tangles itself up in purism. The answer to these questions
(and a lot more!) was: neither to deny nor to forget but doing some huge
steps forward. Therefore I changed my name to Miki Mikron and turned the
overall sound totally inside out. The new pieces have quite little to
do with the old ones - apart from the fact that they were done by me -
and sit themselves down on the radio with a fat ass, right in the gap
between Europop and RnB. The Mikron64-computervoice i put aside. Instead
I'm doing the singing by myself, cause that sounds much better. Well,
kinda. You know, I'm looking for a singer and until I found someone, I'll
have to get through all this on my own."

Mira Ursic
(Kroatië) studeert viool aan het conservatorium van Rotterdam en
maakte als improvisatieliefhebber onvermijdelijk ook kennis met de R:IP.
Vanwege haar sterke eigen kijk op het proces van improviseren nodigde
de R:IP haar uit een project te leiden. In Great Acceptations halen de
musici het uiterste uit beperkt muzikaal materiaal. ‘Instant minimal
composing’, zo zou je de uitdaging kunnen noemen waar Mira hen voor
stelt.

Guapo is a force of nature; an infinitely expanding climax, a controlled
catastrophe, a sun forged in sound. It can be shaped, controlled, even
tamed; but the strain of trying to contain it is etched into the contorted
faces and flailing limbs of those brave and foolish men who take it upon
themselves to do so. Dave Smith's monumental drum kit alone provides fitting
testimony to Guapo's might. Gripped by maniac rhythms, he expresses the
bliss, pain and awe of one who knows that a single beat can mean the difference
between eternity and oblivion. Bassist Matt Thompson provides great surges
of driving power, keeping Guapo moving ever forwards while, draped over
his keyboards as if to keep secret the mysteries of creation, Daniel O'Sullivan
converts the light of the stars into sound. Exposed to Guapo in a confined
space, members of an audience will tend to do one of two things. Some
will immediately seek the nearest exit, while those left behind turn to
face the music, transfixed like prey engulfed in a tiger1s roar. How long
is a climax? "How long have you got?", replies Guapo, cymbal eyes smiling.
