Wie speelt met wie, op welke tijd en plaats; dat zijn zo’n beetje de enige legitieme afspraken in de vrije improvisatie. Via een slimme samenstelling van ad-hoc-ensembles kan een concert desondanks licht voorgeprogrammeerd worden. Samensteller Hugo van Rooij kent zijn pappenheimers en zal in deze GoudenHamers-aflevering aansturen op contrastrijke identiteiten van formaties, van tegen de jazz aanschurkend tot hoogst abstract.

Rotterdamse Improvisatie Poel / Hans Tonino presenteert:

Spin & Span

Muziek als weefsel, waarin muzikale draden worden gesponnen en tot een spannend geheel worden geweven. Dat is het uitgangspunt in dit project van fluitist-R:IP-lid Hans Tonino. Met een kleine groep musici is onderzocht hoe in vrije improvisaties nuancering en verfijning kan worden aangebracht door te focusseren op het collectieve spel in relatie tot de individuele expressie. Muzikanten: Willy Bakker  stem / Sam Israel  stem / Mira Ursic  viool / Peter Sterk  cello / Caroline Peters  altsax / Guus Derksen  sopraansax / Maarten Mors  elektrische bas / Wijnand Lammers  slagwerk.

Improvisation is the keyword. In the attic of the Poortgebouw, improvisation doesn’t only refer to the oft associated jazz derive (although definitely integral) rather the desire to create an unpredictable evening without a pre-defined program shaped by labels (goth-night, hiphop-night, movie-night) and codified expectations. It is a temporary open podium once a month for individuals who have an idea to test it in the company of others. Ideally, some coincidental overlaps emerge and breed something new. The dynamic of each evening created by the blurred border between audience and participants is unique and unrepeatable.

Removal are a three piece instrumental heavy/punk band from Vancouver who use samples and a slide show to enhance the music. Removal have escaped the clutches of major labels and over commercialized music. Based on word of mouth and consistent touring, Removal have gained a widespread fan base.

After some small shows and in some shows in Waterfront, de Bakkerij and Vera, At No Bikini Beach is proud to say they truly exist! At No Bikini Beach mixes dance and Avant Rock in an instrumental medley that rocks the roof of your house. It is the one band that dares to take the step of making a brand new flow in the dutch underground. The shows in Waterfront and Vera where very successful with a big crowd and that’s nothing less but a big achievement. Think about At No bikini Beach as a wave of stirring melodies supported by low rhythmic bass waves that flow from dub to electro with a drummer that drums like he’s the drums themselves. You won’t find complete choruses, verses, pop or rock songs. It’s all about the flow and holding on to that melodious energy. Hey.. This is what you get when you have to describe your own music..
