LIVE: Mindscan + Magoja (R:DAM)

performances by 2 fresh Rotterdam hardcore projects
MINDSCAN (members ex-Lady Die!)
Mindscan is opgericht in juni 2005, o.a. door ex leden van Lady Die!, Sect en Black Forrest.
De band speelt melodieuze, intense metalcore die raakvlakken heeft met zowel deathmetal als nu-metal. Dat klinkt ongeveer als een cocktail van Caliban, Walls of Jericho, SOAD en Suffocation.
Opvallend zijn de vocalen: Mindscan heeft 3 zangers. Hierdoor beschikt de band zowel over 2 stemminge cleane zang als grunts en screams. Op dit moment wordt er keihard gewerkt aan materiaal. De 1e demo kan in november/ december 2005 verwacht worden.

This afternoon the Poortgebouw is open to the public for guided tours through the rich history and colorful interior our monumental house. In the attic will be a small fair with infostands showcasing Rotterdam initiatives, groups and projects and their current situations. With this event, we would like to draw more public attention to issues such as social housing, migration and small-scale art/cultural production in Rotterdam. There is also music, films, kinderprogramma and a buffet with soup, drinks and hapjes.

THE
TWO TEARS
The Two Tears is ex-Red Aunt Kerry Davis on guitar and vocals and a couple
of French gentlemen on drums and second axe. The guitar-swarm goo-goo-mucks
it up with a brief yet Eur-appealing sprinkling of femme vox, and it’s
better than you think it is. Good and loud. Tracks like “Oooo, I’m
Blue” has this huge fuzz-monster sound they must’ve used a tugboat
to lug through the song, while the sharper guitar flits around with a
second and more fulfilling helping of Davis’ voluptuous voice. A
noise burlesque of sorts, that implodes on itself at the end, and manages
to be moody and dark and uplifting all at the same time. Very intriguing,
much like that pretty brunette you made eye contact with on the train
platform, who was gone by the time you worked up the stomach to approach
her.

Wat doe je als je Ms. Juliette Lewis & haar Licks niet ‘aan de lijn’
kunt krijgen? Dan ga je voor ‘the first best thing’; Elle Bandita.
Deze rockgirlll zet een ‘onemanshow’ neer waar de electrovonken
vanaf knallen. Bandita komt uit Rotterdam en haalt de ene na de andere
vette lick uit haar flyin’ V... en zint het je niet? Dan quoten we
Elle; FUCK OFF!

BELCH
Eind 2000 als 1-mans noise act gestart, zonder idee of toekomst, meer als laboratorium, instrumenten als boor, drums, toongeneratoren, slechte gitaar, halve versterker, geen zangervaring. Het uiterlijk van de set heeft zich in de loop van de tijd veranderd, objecten, tekeningen en schilderijen en poppenkast verschijnen op het podium, de enige speler is ook niet altijd meer te herkennen. De muziek is grilliger geworden; klankbeelden tegenover drum en gitaarkronkels, bezwerende teksten afgewisseld met diabolisch gekrijs.

"... De groep leeft duidelijk in een eigen universum ((te) concreet gezegd: IJmuiden) en in die wereld kan men lekker zijn eigen gang gaan. De muziek is erg basic, bluespunkgaragerock’n’roll, en door de vele ritmewisselingen, ondoordringbaarheid en ook wel maniakale gekte komen namen als Captain beefheart (zonder de muzikale virtuositeit) en The Birthday Party bij me op. In ‘Another Dead Whale’ klinkt ineens een trompetje. Waar kwam die vandaan? Het is een dergelijke verrassing die luisteren naar deze elpee zo spannend maakt."
