MAY 30: Conference: Inhabitant Cooperatives in Europe
LYON - Invitation from ENTPE France to participate in a series of workshops around themes related to new forms of collective living projects. Members of the Poortgebouw make a presentation in the workshop on the social dimension of cooperatives.

MAR 26-27: Workshops: Contrapolis
Contrapolis is two days of workshops, walks, an exhibition and a public debate taking place the 26 and 27 of March, 2008, in the Poortgebouw, Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAi), and around the city of Rotterdam. The core question of the event would be "how is art, and cultural production more broadly, at once driving capitalist valorisation in the city and able to project forms of social relations that do not produce
value for capital?"

DEC 14-15: Open Days
Op vrijdag 14 en zaterdag 15 december zijn er de jaarlijkse open dagen van het Poortgebouw. Op zaterdag worden er rondleidingen gegeven door het monumentale pand en is er een presentatie van het renovatieplan dat door de bewoners is ontwikkeld.

NOV 24: Discussion: Basisinkomen
Een nieuw initiatief: Ontwikkelingshulp door middel van het verstrekken van een basisinkomen. Een basisinkomen is een onvoorwaardelijk verstrekt inkomen, wat voor langere tijd periodiek aan ieder wordt verstrekt. Een tegenprestatie is niet vereist. Vanuit Nederland werkt de organisatie Inclusion aan een onderzoeksproject met een basisinkomen in Noord Oeganda. Het recht op een basisinkomen is onderdeel van Micropartnership , de door mensen gedreven ontwikkelingsmethode die Inclusion ontwikkelt.

NOV 5-6: EU Parliament: European States General on Housing

Hints Institute has been launched in 2001, in Budapest, Hungary, with the aim to create art that is organic part of everydays, that drops surprises in the flow of everydays.

OCT 4-7: China Europa Forum
Leden van de vereniging presenteren de 'case study' van het Poortgebouw, Rotterdam in het kader van het '2nd China-Europa Forum', 4 t/m 7 october. We participeren in de workshop 'Inhabitants' in Rome en daarna in de plenary session van alle 46 workshops in Brussel. Klik HIER voor meer informatie.

YOUNG EUROPEANS CREATE EUROPE

JUNE 28: Demo: Stadsnomaden Manifestatie
Ook voor betaalbare woningen en tegen onnodige sloop? Kom dan naar de Stadsnomaden- manifestatie. Donderdag 28 juni, vanaf 19.00 op de stoep voor het stadhuis aan de Coolsingel. Met muziek, sprekers en gratis koffie en soep. Onder het motto 'Zo ziet de stad eruit in 2030' laten bewoners van verschillende Rotterdamse wijken zien wat de gevolgen zijn van de huisvestingsplannen van dit college. In samenwerking met de Bond Behoud Sociale Huisvesting.

MAY 19: Discussion: OpenStreetMap
Tijdens het weekend van 19 en 20 mei wordt Rotterdam in kaart gebracht door vrijwilligers van het OpenStreetMap project. Het doel van dit project is om vrije geografische data te verzamelen en op een wikipedia-achtige manier beschikbaar te maken voor iedereen. OpenStreetMap organiseert samen met Groen-Links en de SP zaterdagavond 19 mei een discussie in het Poortgebouw over de mogelijkheden en gevolgen van vrije data.

APRIL 19: Discussion: Jan de Jong - Middle East Peace
De situatie in het midden oosten lijkt muurvast te zitten. Voor iedereen die denkt dat wegkijken geen oplossing is organiseert het Palestina Komitee Rotterdam, samen met de SP en Groen Links, op donderdag 19 april, een informatieve bijeenkomst met de ervaringsdeskundige Jan de Jong. Jan de Jong behandelt de mogelijkheden en de onmogelijkheden van de 2 staten oplossing in het licht van de actuele ontwikkelingen. Jan de Jong is Cartograaf van de "Foundation for Middle East Peace" en was adviseur tijdens PLO onderhandelingen met onder andere de wereldbank en andere organisaties.

APRIL 5: International Alliance Conference on Self-Organisation in Housing (Rome)
Members of the Poortgebouw make a presentation for in the conference “Self-recovery and Self-building: Forms and policies of a new public service for social housing” in Rome Campidoglio, Sala della Protomoteca. Self-recovery and Self-building for residential purposes aims at shaping the innovating, sometimes conflicting ideas which are generated from society into the form of partnership and at making more profitable state investments combining town planning policies with the social, residential and economic ones and, consequently, controlling the many factors which originate social exclusion and city degradation.

OCT 27: Benefit: Team Ducttape
In november 2006 neemt ons Team Ducttape, bestaande uit drie vrienden en een oud Volkswagenbusje, deel aan de Amsterdam-Dakar Challenge 2006. Dit is de derde Challenge voor autoÕs met een aanschafwaarde van maximaal 500 euro. We rijden vanaf Amsterdam naar Dakar door de Sahara. Onze auto's worden bij aankomst in Dakar geveild. De opbrengst is voor een goed doel. Voor ons is het de uitdaging Dakar te bereiken en onze VW-barrel een zinvolle toekomst te geven in Afrika. http://www.teamducttape.nl/

MAY 28: Benefit: Fort Pannerden
Fort Pannerden werd gekraakt op 12 juni 2000. Sinds die dag wordt het gebouw op regelmatige basis opengesteld door de bewoners. Zij bieden ruimte aan schoolklassen, scoutinggroepen, kunstenaars en vele anderen. Het is daarmee ??n van de meest bekende broedplaats in de regio. De gemeente Lingewaard wil nu dat de krakers vertrekken.

APRIL: Eutopia
Vereniging Poortgebouw collaborated with the Austrian group Eutopia in the launch of their website for trans-European artistic and cultural exchange. www.eutopia.at

OCT 3: Poortgebouw 25th Birthday
October 3, 2005 is the 25th birthday of the Poortgebouw as the home for our living group. Throughout the month of October 2005, the Vereniging Poortgebouw is planning various performances, film evenings, discussions, jam sessions, eetcafés and other activities to celebrate this occasion. Kunsthalle Exnergasse, Vienna
The freibesetzt exhibition and parallel happenings explore places and structures where attempts are made to create space for experimental living, working and thinking, paradoxically, both within and as autonomous as possible from the prescribed societal status-quo. Through contrasting parallel Dutch and Austrian developments, spaces and their respective “actors”, both past and contemporary, freibesetzt aims to initiate a lively discourse and intensify the knowledge-sharing over this (internationally) threatened domain.

NOV 24: Trammelant Benefiet Eetcafé
Hier een uitnodiging voor een benefiet eetcafe/avond voor Trammelant! Trammelant is een maandelijks krakers blaadje wat nu zo’n 2 jaar bestaat. Wij hebben hard geld nodig om te kunnen blijven bestaan en daarom is er een eetcafe avond op Woensdag 24 november in het poortgebouw met eten en bandjes.

NOV 17-21: DEAF 04: Open Actie Café
The monumental Poortgebouw is a living and working space for international artists, musicians, students and others. After 25 years, the existence of the group is threatened by the current owner’s plans to develop the building into expensive offices. The Poortgebouw invites visitors to the five-day Open Action Café to experience the benefits and struggles to sustain an “open social system”. Diverse installations enable interaction with the stories and strategies implicit in an urban freespace. With performances, films, guided tours & more.

Vanwege de huidige situatie lijkt het ons desto spannender om ter gelegenheid van onze 24ste verjaardag een forumdebat rond het thema groepswonen te organiseren. Omdat wij ervan overtuigd zijn dat de onzekerheid met welke wij op dit moment geconfronteerd worden een verschijnsel is dat in deze hedendaagse maatschappij vaker voordoet, willen wij een brede discussie stimuleren rond woongroepen in Rotterdam.

A debate organized by the Faculteitsvereniging Histartes van de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam around places of creativity and the production of cultural innovation in Rotterdam. Guests included dr.E. Hitters (Faculteit der Historische en Kunstwetenschappen EUR), dhr J. Van Teeffelen (dS+V), Hajo Doorn (WORM) en leden van het Kraakspreekuur. NOV 22: CIVIC TV #1
Rotterdam is going to hell. What can we do about it?
Organized by W H Y Rotterdam and Social Fiction, the first episode of CIVIC TV was a one day high summit of alternative mental and spatial engineers presenting various approaches to understand, use & criticise the urban environment. see WEBSITE

NOV 8: Landelijke Open Kraakdag
Open day of the (legalized) Poortgebouw in solidarity against the Cabinet’s motion to illegalize kantoor squatting. Without squatting, our unique social and (sub)cultural freespace simply would not exist in Rotterdam. read REPORT. see WEBSITE Kraken Gaat Door.

NOV 7: Terror Kultur Touristic Tour
An evening with the Association of Friends of Reasonable Progress where the intention of the Koper-based Slovenian artists was “to visit the underground points of The Netherlands and to meet the people that are working there. b.) to present the Slovenian artists and the situation in the country.” see NOV. SEP 13: Open Monumentendag
In cooperation with Rotterdam Marketing, the rijksmonument Poortgebouw offered open tours to roughly 150 visitors on the day. It was a good chance for people who normally had never visited the house to do so and for us to meet people, such as (ex-)employees of the Havenbedrijf, who had other memories of the Poortgebouw. We are currently digitalizing the ca. 50 questionairres that the visitors had filled out after their stay. They give a great impression of how the “outside world” perceives Het poortgebouw and the inhabitants’ collective. Check it out soon! see SEP. AGENDA

MAR 17: Banner: It’s about the oil, stupid!
Protest banner against the outbreak of the Iraq War was hung on the facade of the building. On Monday morning, March 17, two policemen knocked on the door of the Poortgebouw threatening the residents who received them with a demand to remove this banner immediately as it is disturbing the “openbaare orde”. see NEWS.

FEB 14: Broedplaatsen Debate
A collaboration with Groen-Links Rotterdam, this debate addressed the importance of free spaces for experiment within the Rotterdam cultural climate. Behind the illuminated facade of the Poortgebouw, representatives from Baroeg, WORM and Poortgebouw discussed the needs and struggles of small-scale cultural initiatives in a city accustomed to a culture of established musea, commercial podia and large-scale festivals.
