airPOORT (artist-in-residence program in the Poortgebouw)

The Poortgebouw's AIRpoort program is no longer active. From October 2008 to November 2009 we invited artists from diverse artistic backgrounds - writers, visual artists, musicians, hackers, performers - who wished to research/develop a project in the Netherlands.

[oct-dec 2008]: Jaromil

Jaromil is the first "artist in residence" in one of the attic rooms. He will stay from October to the end of December. Jaromil is hacker, activist, kraker and artist. He is busy with many projects, a recent one is M2M radio and the 26 October commemoration: 3 years after the fire in the migrant detention center in Schipol, which killed 11 people in the cells. He is planning a low-tech video installation in the eetcafe in December, and is also open for collaboration proposals about poetry, migration, video installations and such.

[jan-mar 2009]: Demian Bern

Demian Bern is a graphic designer/curator/event organisor and runs a non-commercial artspace in Stuttgart - Interventionsraum - along with a group of artists and other cultural activists. His main focus during his stay will be collaborations and interventions. Demian will come with a DAAD scholarship from January-March 2009.

[jul-aug 2009]: Samira Borovik & Rogério Largman Borovik

Rogério Borovik is videoartist, curator and professor of Electronic Media in São Paulo, Brazil. Works with art and technology since 1995, developing kinetic op-art and electric motors and the interactive cd-rom Hipnorationes Relativae at Unicamp University. His approach with the computer starts in 1996, when he begins to do graphic animations in 2D and 3D, besides the development of a research in video art and interactive web art. He becomes partner of the performer Renato Cohen in 1997, working on virtual scenario to theater and participates of Neo Tao, a group of collages and performances. Master of Communication and Semiotics from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo with the research "Expanded Interface - Video in on-line communication", advisor: Prof. Dr. Giselle Beiguelman in 2005.

Samira Br is performer and professor of Art Performance at the Department of Body Languages at the course "Communication and Arts of the Body" at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, Brazil. Member of the Performance Studies Group at the field body scenes and mythology, autobiographic subject, video performance, flow and ritual in the theatrical interpretation, body art and psychophysical training in performance. Master Degree in Arts from the Art Institute of the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) with the research "Warriors of the Star Alphabet - initiation in performance and shamanism in the creation of the show Ka, by Renato Cohen" in 2005.

[sep-nov 2009]: Chris Dupuis

Chris Dupuis is a former champion equestrian, ballet school dropout, and mildly successful catalogue model. His video and performance works have been presented at galleries, theatres, and festivals, across North America and Europe. He also works as an independent arts writer contributing to a variety of publications as well as editing the online performance criticism magazine Time and Space.
